Family Fun

‘Tis the Season to Start Early

Posted on November 28th, 2011

Who needs the hustle and bustle of the holiday crunch? This year make a commitment to keep the holiday season fun and your stress levels low by starting your holiday preparation early. Like now.

Here are some easy ways to get started:

Create a To-Do List

Break your holiday to-dos into bite-sized tasks. Start by creating head categories -- gifts, food, etc. – then break down into smaller categories – gifts for family, colleagues, teachers, etc. and food for Christmas eve dinner, Christmas breakfast and so on. Simply creating the lists will ease the pressure immensely.

Make Online Purchases

Reap the benefits of online shopping by knocking the majority of your gift purchases out in an evening. With a bit of preparation – hence the to-do list above – you can knock out the majority of your purchases from the comfort of your kitchen table.

Purchase Holiday Cards and Create Mailing List

You may not be feeling holiday fever just yet, but prep now and you’ll be ready when the mood strikes. Buy your cards – this can happen online too – and create a solid mailing list so you’re not scrambling for addresses when the time comes. By December first you’ll be able to calmly sit down and write something that will surely be inspirational.

Assess Your Decorating Supplies

If the Menorahs are in shape and the Christmas lights are good to go, your holiday decorating will be a breeze. Use the first weeks of November to assess your decorating arsenal, the second weeks to replace any missing items and the early days of Dec to put it all up.
